Slow...Please, Inc.
In 1987 Katie Reilly, a professed speedaholic, was rushing in her car to meet
her daughter. When she arrived in her hurried state, she found a young girl
resembling her daughter who had been struck and dragged 97 feet by a truck.
Traumatized by this moment, she returned to the street the next day holding a
home-made slow sign. In the weeks to come, she realized that it was not the
'slow' sign that had made the impression on passersby, but it was her personal
plea, "please!" And from that moment an idea was born entitled
"Slow...please!"
Slow...please was initiated as a public safety campaign. The
program has evolved into a unique,
nationally-recognized quality-of-life, non-profit program advocating a slower
pace, not just in our driving but also in our daily lives. The catalyst of the
campaign has been to place the personal word PLEASE in all the unexpected
places throughout our day - on our street signs, our trash barrels, tee-shirts,
dashboards, storefronts & shaving mirrors. We treat the symptoms of fast
pace with a personal reminder of life. The word is 'please' -
"Slow...please!"
"When we added the word please to our street signs, we hoped people would slow
down their driving. What we never expected was for them to bring the word please
home with them and slow down their lives."
Kathleen T. Reilly, Founder
"Now an attitude..."Slow...please!"
